Philip Goldstein returned home and opened the family shed. There he saw his father, hanging from the ceiling.
Philip was ten years old.
What is someone to do? How is one to express himself after seeing that? Young Philip turned to drawing. His workspace was a small, windowless closet... probably all too similar to that fatal shed.
Years passed, and Philip Goldstein became Philip Guston, one of the key figures of abstract expressionism. Then, he led the transition into neo-expressionism, becoming one of the forefathers of the movement.
So, it worked out for Philip.
Not so much for his father...
