It's time for another installment of our "Ask Jew or Not Jew" feature, where young readers write in for advice. Here's a letter we recently received.
Dear Jew or Not Jew, my great uncle died, and left me a lot of money! I want to buy a motorcycle, but my parents say I should save it. Help! — Michael Feingold, 17, Pikesville, Maryland
Dear Michael,
Oh, to be young again! To ride a motorcycle, the wind in your hair, the leather... wait. Motorcycle? Do you know how dangerous that is?
No, no, Michael, don't buy a motorcycle. Listen to your parents. Save the money! Put it in a Roth 401(k). Do you know that every dollar you put in now could be worth when you retire in 50 years... oh, we don't know, let's say $8? Also, did you know that Roth 401(k) (and also Roth IRA) is named after former senator Bill Roth, who was half Jewish?
G-d, we're old.
You know what, Michael? Buy the stupid motorcycle. Just please, wear a helmet...
