Few remember Lisa Howard, the soap-actress-turned-journalist, but, thanks to newly declassified documents, she might rise back to prominence.
First, the non-classified part: Howard, born Dorothy Guggenheim to a Jewish family in Ohio, starred in the likes of "As the World Turns" and "Guiding Light" in the 1950s. From there, she changed careers and became a reporter, worked for ABC News, and even had her own daytime show, "Lisa Howard and News with a Woman's Touch". She interviewed the likes of Nikita Khrushchev and Eleanor Roosevelt, the Shah of Iran and Fidel Castro.
Now, the classified: that Castro connection went beyond interviews. For years, Howard served as a go-between between the Cuban and US governments, trying to normalize relations between the countries. Unfortunately, JFK's death and the changing political landscape that followed put a kibosh to that.
And now, the top secret: supposedly, Howard and Castro carried on a passionate affair through those years.
That will make you remember Lisa Howard...
