Steven Bochco, who has passed on recently, created some of the most groundbreaking shows in television history.
There was "Hill Street Blues", the first real gritty police drama. That was followed by "L.A. Law", the standard-bearer for all lawyer shows. And who can forget "Doogie Howser, M.D."? We certainly can't, as much as we try...
That all led to the most groundbreaking show of them all. Even with the success of "Law" and "MD", Bochco's best work was always about the police. So it was his next show that took it to the next level. Bochco had TV cops do what TV cops had never done before:
Sing.
We're talking about "Cop Rock", a police musical that lasted 11 episodes in 1990.
Oh, "NYPD Blue" was alright too...
